TANGERANG, BANTEN- Standing water described by residents as “perennial flooding” in the Tanah Merah area of East Sepatan Subdistrict, Tangerang Regency, has once again come under sharp public scrutiny. The poorly functioning drainage system along Raya Gatot Subroto (Tanah Merah) Road is cited as the primary cause of recurring inundation, which persists even in the absence of rainfall (February 18, 2026).

Local residents expressed disappointment with what they perceive as inadequate handling by the regional government and relevant authorities, who have yet to deliver a tangible solution to the long-standing problem. They suspect the drainage channels are no longer functioning properly due to blockages and encroachment by illegal structures along the roadside corridor.
“Rain makes it worse, but even without rain the area remains flooded.

The water is dirty because it mixes with household wastewater. It severely disrupts traders and road users,” said a resident who requested anonymity.
According to residents, the stagnant water not only hampers the economic activities of nearby vendors but also poses hazards to motorists and pedestrians alike. The muddy and foul-smelling conditions are said to undermine environmental comfort and public safety.

The RBN.co.id journalistic team reported that attempts were made to seek clarification from the Tanah Merah village administration and the East Sepatan subdistrict office. However, the responses received were considered insufficient and failed to address community expectations for concrete drainage remediation measures at the site.
Residents added that a field survey by subdistrict officials had been conducted approximately one week earlier, yet no physical follow-up actions have been observed to date.

The community urges the Tangerang Regency Government to take firm and effective steps to rehabilitate the drainage system, given that the flooding affects a key local economic corridor and is occurring ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 2026.
“This situation is unpleasant and highly disruptive to daily activities. When it rains, the water level rises even higher,” said a welding workshop employee working near the location.

Residents also call on Tangerang Regent Maesyal Rasyid and Deputy Regent Intan Nurul Hikmah to evaluate drainage management in the area and ensure effective governmental oversight. The public hopes that drainage improvements can be realized promptly so that normal activities may resume and the environment becomes healthier and more livable.***
